Why is Google the most important platform for most businesses?
Because Google is the platform where the customer searches for you, not just where they rate you. A Google review appears in the search results and on Google Maps, exactly at the moment someone is choosing between you and the competitor down the road. That makes Google reviews doubly valuable: they convince and they influence your local ranking. How that mechanism works is covered in how Google reviews determine your Google Maps performance. No other platform combines reach and visibility this way.
That is why my advice is almost always the same: get Google in order first before starting on a second platform. One strong Google profile does more for you than three half-maintained profiles elsewhere.
When does Klanten Vertellen count?
When credibility is a selling point. Klanten Vertellen ties reviews to a verifiable transaction, which makes them harder to fake and gives them more weight as a trust signal. That works well in sectors with a big purchase decision, such as automotive and professional services. What the platform is exactly is covered in what is Klanten Vertellen, and the direct comparison with Google is in Google reviews vs Klanten Vertellen.
The rule of thumb: Klanten Vertellen is a second layer, not a replacement. You use it alongside Google to make trust verifiable, not instead of Google to be found.
And Trustpilot, Facebook, Tripadvisor and Booking?
They only count if your customer is there. Tripadvisor and Booking dominate hospitality and accommodation, where guests actively search and book; for a restaurant or hotel they are no side issue. Trustpilot plays a role in e-commerce and services. Facebook reviews have become a marginal source for most businesses, unless your audience is genuinely active there. The mistake I see most often is businesses claiming a profile everywhere and then falling behind everywhere. Two platforms done well beat six done halfway. For the platforms beyond the big names, reviews on Trustpilot, Facebook and other platforms adds the nuance.
How do you choose where to invest?
Ask yourself one question: where does my customer look right before choosing? For a garage or a store that is Google. For a restaurant, Tripadvisor comes on top. For a webshop, Trustpilot weighs in. Put your energy there and ignore the platforms where a profile exists but no customer looks. More platforms is not better; keeping the right platforms up to date is better.
How do you manage multiple platforms without drowning?
This is why businesses get stuck on one platform: every extra platform means logging in again, checking again, responding again. Across multiple locations that becomes unworkable. With Repmanager, the reviews from Google, Klanten Vertellen and other platforms come together in one overview, so you can respond and collect from a single place without switching between environments. That way you can be on the platforms that matter without turning maintenance into a full-time job. How to respond well to all those reviews is covered in how to respond well to reviews.
